What is an AI Camera?

An AI camera is a camera that makes use of artificial intelligence software to help you take better photos by identifying objects intelligently and optimizing the color and output based on the scene. AI cameras are becoming increasingly popular in the workplace.

How Does an AI Camera Work?

AI is an acronym for artificial intelligence, which uses software that takes inputs and then uses logic to determine a solution, much like humans. AI is used in many industries, primarily because of its learning and problem-solving traits.

An AI camera uses artificial intelligence to identify any breaches of health and safety codes in the workplace.

By inputting specific commands, companies can train AI cameras to detect safety breaches, such as when a worker walks into an exclusion zone.

AI cameras can also detect safety hazards, such as forklift collisions or workers wearing PPE incorrectly. For companies that have integrated camera systems on-site, using computer vision technology makes more sense.

Most computer vision camera analysis solutions connect seamlessly to the existing camera network.

Its plug and play nature makes it a great choice, since it seamlessly connects to virtually all modern CCTV camera systems.

Safety managers can then build custom rules, such as identifying exclusion zones using simple drag-and-drop functionality.

Once the rules are created, the AI camera automatically processes footage. It populates an event log to show all non-compliant events, and allows the user to categorize specific events with tags.

Events can be filtered and even shared with other employees, greatly improving reporting throughout the company.

Benefits of Using AI Cameras in the Workplace

AI cameras offer a fantastic return on investment, making them a great choice for use in the workplace. Here are just some of the many benefits that they offer.

  1. Automatic Safety Monitoring

Instead of hiring safety staff to monitor workers via a remote feed, AI cameras automatically detect infringement and log events. Companies don’t have to spend large sums of money on monitoring; they can simply leverage the power of AI.

  1. Flag Unsafe Conditions and Events Immediately

AI cameras use machine learning technology, so the more data they process, the smarter they get. In high-risk industries such as manufacturing facilities, where targeted monitoring might not be as effective, AI cameras can do an excellent job.

They can immediately identify unsafe conditions and events based on the defined safety rules, log an event, and send a notification to the safety manager.

  1. Improved Workplace Safety

Using AI cameras in the workplace improves employee safety considerably. Employees will remain more vigilant when they know that AI cameras are in operation and any breach of health and safety codes will be recorded and reported.

As a result, employees generally take greater precautions and adopt a stricter attitude towards enforcing workplace safety.

  1. Improved Safety Audit Reporting

One of the biggest benefits of using AI cameras in the workplace is that they help you build detailed safety audit reports. You can access all safety events and determine just how effective safety protocols are.

Evidence-based reporting makes it easy for safety managers to know exactly how events transpired. They can also share the footage with other stakeholders and team members to gain feedback.

From visual analytics to KPI tracking, you can get a holistic view of your company’s overall safety performance, review trends, and determine any specific changes that you must make.

  1. Take Effective Corrective Action

Reviewing footage makes it easy for you to identify safety events that follow a similar theme. You can then add commentary, get feedback, or make your own notes about how to prevent such events from transpiring again.

You can also share these reports with all relevant parties and get their insights as well. Most companies already use CCTV cameras in the workplace. By using AI software, you can improve safety protocols considerably.

  1. Secure Data Storage

A common concern for many companies is data leaks. Most AI cameras encrypt information and often store it behind layers of security in the cloud or on a locally hosted server. This ensures that your data can’t be accessed by malicious actors.

  1. Highly Scalable

As mentioned above, AI cameras simply use proprietary software. This way, you don’t have to replace the existing network of cameras from your facility. Instead, you can connect more cameras as your facility grows.

  1. Custom Safety Rules

Safety rules and regulations often change over time. AI cameras make it easy for safety managers to input new rules in the software. It will automatically start detecting safety events after configuration.

This will also give you a better idea about which employees are complying with the updated regulations and which ones may need to undergo further training.

From simple safety hazards to chemical handling processes, you can carefully review safety performance across the board.
